best thing about the internet (for me) is being able to post/publish words I compose, be it something for free or something for sale; juicy little couplet or a novel-length work (I’ve yet to manage to finish – but I will, I will); or just a rambling blah-blah-blah like this.
But religious and political types are also afoot – lots of them. Maybe the majority? I fucking can’t stand them. Any of them. No matter the side. Preachy lecturers. Boo! Hiss! Or it is less not standing them and more that if I fall to the temptation like a tantalizing bait on youtube, there’s something sneaky and slippery about it – get a little pissed off, go to another, get a little more pissed off, look at more, temperature rises… meanwhile that novella or novel that offered so much fun (what can be more fun than making stuff up?) takes a dejected seat on the curb.
And the real kicker: the more adamant I say ‘don’t do it! don’t do it! don’t do it!’ what do I do? Exactly what I just did yesterday and a little bit this morning and now it’s back to the start line. Gotta expunge the gunk and grunge that threatens to choke my normally peaceable, whimsical, style. So no more. Fuck-em, fuck-em, fuck-em, fuck-em all.
Except I do feel inclined to say this:
I’m pretty sure I’d rather take a trip
to decadent downtown Berlin
and get my cock sucked for a quarter
instead of freezing my nuts off in Stalingrad.
I couldn’t agree more. They feel its their appointed duty to judge, “educate”, preach! Sickens me

They make me want to write meaningless poems and prurient purposeless tales.

If we begin to write for others we lose ourselves as writers. Never give in! Block the suckers!

I know this: if I get deep into a work (like last month I focused on completing one novella-length thing and actually did it) or just the mood and keep coming back to it and staying in it, the very notion of looking at news/politics/religious stuff is not at all interesting. But if a low moment comes along and I dare start reading some of that stuff, it’s kind of like you can’t just eat one potato chip – and guess what happens to the mood for making stuff up? Poof! Decimated. No new words. But it’ll come back. It always does. Then I’ll screw up again. Get it back. Round and round and round… I guess everyone has to learn what feeds their creations and what is poison. Actually I did pretty good – throughout March and this month – til just yesterday or so – I was just into writing and didn’t pay them a speck of attention. But I know what you mean. If you respond, react, let them get in your head; get their stuff on your mind, then you’re playing their game. And as long they have you on their hook playing their game, you can’t get into playing in the worlds you’re making or trying to make.

Exactly! I confess I am political but stay away from it as much as I can because it serves no purpose here.

ah! Momentum! That’s the word. Momentum. Get a good momentum going in the fun-zone of poems and tales, chugging along, chugging along, meander around on the internet, happen to see a catchy headline or something about news/politics/religion – if I can keep from going there the momentum is safe, but if I dare…. momentum – gone.
Momentum. That’s the word. Momentum.
