what gets this goat

you can all but hear the sneer
in the ink when a ruffled free verse detractor
quips it’s just chopped-up prose,

apparently assuming the original
prose so chopped plainly adhered as all
prose ought to adhere to the school

or more like preachers preaching that none shall
construct any other sentence
but a short and snappy sentence. It’s a bit

like saying hash browns are just shredded potatoes.
And what kind of barbarian would dare
slice a tomato to go on a sandwich?

About Timmy the Scribbler

Love to write all kinds of stuff I love writing so many different kinds of stuff it is a constant struggle to narrow the focus to a manageable handful and let the others go. But a few years ago I dipped my fingers into a poetry pie and of all my uncertainties, one thing that is no uncertainty is that it is one passion that must remain, so maybe that's the one. I do dearly delight in chopping up fictional works into stanzas and syllables.
