here v there

an attribute that helped soothe my apprehension
about having to abdicate that delightful
dream of residing the rest of my less-than-spectacular-days
in that crazy little country called Romania
as I’d gone on to become genuine in the resident sense
– remind me to tell of the little incident
where I used my Romania Resident card
as legal enough identification
to buy a bottle of wine at the dollar store –
well anyway, I fed my imagination
memories of cuisine, what they’d call southern
cuisine, like dairy queen’s barbecue sandwich

and biscuits and gravy and sweet potato pie
and pecan pie and fatback and kidney or pinto beans
and so on; but since arriving the preponderance
of ethnic eating has been rice but not beans and rice
but rice with chicken but not fried chicken
but kung pao chicken and noodles and there’s been
a couple burritos that were so-so.
I’ve seen questions about how southern this region is
and I’ll say that it once was but highly questionable
how much it is anymore. Have to regrettably lean
closer to the nay though it is not completely
erased. Maybe the climate or the fact that green yet prevails.

About Timmy the Scribbler

Love to write all kinds of stuff I love writing so many different kinds of stuff it is a constant struggle to narrow the focus to a manageable handful and let the others go. But a few years ago I dipped my fingers into a poetry pie and of all my uncertainties, one thing that is no uncertainty is that it is one passion that must remain, so maybe that's the one. I do dearly delight in chopping up fictional works into stanzas and syllables.
